Recap: Another day, another brutal pitching performance. Usually Interleague Play has been kind to us, and we often get on quite the roll at this time of the year. This year it seems to have exposed all of our weaknesses. We started so strong this year, and we really looked like the team to beat, but now the White Sox and Tigers are breathing down our necks. I'm not terribly thrilled. In all honesty, I didn't see all of this game. I watched bits and pieces and listened to a good chunk on the radio, but after we were raped in the 5th inning I didn't feel all that excited to go back and watch it on TV. Slowey, Baker and Blackburn have all put together some extremely poor performances, and I for one am completely ready to see Duensing make a start.
There really isn't a whole lot to say. Baker gave up what seemed like a billion hits, over half of which were extra-base hits. 3 were home runs (2 2-run homers and 1 solo). You can't get whacked around like that and expect to win. The offense was stagnant (7 hits, all singles, 8 strikeouts). Jason Repko had a hit and an outfield assist in his Twins debut. I can only hope that the return to playing AL opponents will help our cause. I'm sorry if I sound really apathetic right now. It's just a little difficult to be excited right now. Perhaps a good sweep of the Tigers will get me energized.
Best Moment: I'm drawing a blank right now.
Most Questionable Moment: Keeping the current rotation intact. I vote for a change, any change.
Worst Moment: The 5th inning.
Quotations of the Day:
- "We ran into some pretty good baseball teams this year...that were all playing pretty good baseball. It goes that way sometimes. And you catch yourself where you're not playing good." - Ron Gardenhire
- "Obviously I know it's in there. I've done it before and I can do it. I'm just not doing it the majority of the time. Just have to keep after it. Not much more you can do other than start making better pitches." - Scott Baker. Please start now.
- "We haven't pitched well enough, with a few exceptions. And offensively, we've been fighting it a bit. We need to get all of our guys back on the field and get home and see what we can do at home. Get back to our league, I guess. We played some pretty good teams that are hot." - Ron Gardenhire
- "We're excited to get off the road, excited to get back in the American League, excited to get back in our division. I think it's going to be good for us." - Michael Cuddyer
Suck-Ass Performance of the Game: Scott Baker (4.1 innings pitched, 11 hits, 3 home runs, 6 earned runs, 1 loss)
