Date: 9/21/09
Opponent: Chicago White Sox
Home/Away: Away
Starting Pitcher: Blackburn
Final Score: W 7-0
Record: 77-73
Best Moment: The White Sox roll over and play dead as the Twins cruise to an easy victory. The Blackburn sure pitches well against the Sox, eh? No walks and nary an extra-base hit in sight. The middle of the order wasn't particularly productive in this game, but the bottom and top of the order really came through. Punto was 2 for 2 with 2 walks and 2 runs, while Cabrera went 2 for 4 and scored 3 runs.
Unfortunately, the second game of this series is looking far less favorable to us with Manship on the mound. But sometimes those uneven match-ups end up working out. Let's hope that's the case.
Most Questionable Moment: Not so much a moment, just a question: Is it weird that I'm starting to appreciate Punto a bit? I mean, he's actually playing very well. Although I think the last time I said something about him playing well he went into a tailspin, so maybe I should just shut up.
Worst Moment: Span gets drilled in the head. That was scary. And I'm guessing he won't be able to play for at least one day. Who's going to bat leadoff? Gomez? Punto? Tolbert? Terrifying, isn't it? Get well soon, Span!
Quotations of the Day:
- "I've been pretty much dizzy the whole season so I'm all right." - Denard Span, jokingly referencing his new head injury and his previous ear infection. Last year we couldn't get away from hand injuries, this year it's dizziness.
- "I don't want to think about baseball. Just go home and try to relax, get my mind off of baseball and see how I feel." - Denard Span
- "One guy gets after it a little bit and everybody just kind of jumps on the train. It makes it a lot more fun in the dugout. It's like a bunch of little kindergarten kids running around out there." - Nick Blackburn, referring to Orlando Cabrera, who was making noise before the game to get everyone pumped up.
- "This is what we all play for. It's a blast." - Nick Blackburn, on being in a pennant race.
Suck-Ass Performance of the Game: Jason Kubel (1 for 5, 3 strikeouts, 3 left on base). I almost picked Delmon Young. But DY actually walked, and that's a rare enough occurence that I feel it should be rewarded with an exemption from the SAPotG.

And picturing the Twins players as Kindergarteners makes my whole day. Can't you just seem them all belting out the Platypus song?!
